About the Event

Outspoken is a program for women* in the wine industry to foster and advance skills in self-expression and self-confidence through public speaking and debating; a training platform empowering participants to successfully advocate for a position or desired outcome  *Including AFAB (assigned female at birth), non-binary individuals, and those with a trans experience/history.

BEHIND THE PROGRAM:

Outspoken founder Sophie Otton and Women And Revolution co-founders Bridget Raffal and Jacqueline Turner have engaged professional debating coach Grace Amilbangsa to conduct a series of online training sessions.

The sessions are designed to build womens’ experience, confidence and skills in reasoning, articulating and arguing on their feet, with the overarching aim of individuals finding and developing their particular voice.

PROGRAM:

To explore the development of this forum, we have instigated an initial two-month program starting 09 May, 2023.

Our first program will provide a foundation in debating and consist of:

  • Six pairs of study partners (12 candidates total)
  • Five zoom meetings (fortnightly) spanning nine weeks.
  • Practice sessions on alternate weeks (four in total).

Each on-line session will cover different debating techniques, with a focus on wine and associated industry topics.

The zoom sessions will be held on Tuesdays, 10:30 to Midday (AEST), starting on the 9th of May and continuing fortnightly to finish on the 4th of July. (9th May, 23rd May, 6th Jun, 20th Jun, 4th July)

On alternate weeks (i.e. non-zoom weeks), study partners will pair up in their own time to work on and practice set exercises.

The course will conclude with a panel exercise where participants occupy and argue for positions, to wrap up the training program.
