The Buddy System

Instead of a formal mentorship program, we run a buddy system that partners members newer to the industry with those that feel they have experience or knowledge to offer. Why do we distinguish between the two? The roles in a mentor program are quite defined and it’s a relationship that works best when approached in a structured manner. They’re generally most successful when the mentee has a specific set of goals that they’d like to achieve and the mentor can help project manage those goals. Most of our members don’t fall into either of those categories.

The Buddy system is a more casual arrangement and for us, is a way of building community and connection. A buddy might just need someone to answer a few questions, might want to see a friendly face at events, or might need someone on hand to offer advice or be connected with someone who can. It’s a flexible arrangement and is a great way of making friends and building contacts.
